James Ohlen, an experienced programmer and creative director at BioWare, declared that after 22 years of working together with the company he has retired. “After 22 years I’ve retired from BioWare. I’ve enjoyed my time with Anthem, Star Wars, Dragon Age and Dungeons along with Dragons,” Ohlen shared via his personal Twitter account. He proceeded to state that he is needing a rest out of the industry and moving forward will “operate on something a little smaller and more personal. ”
Ohlen’s past work at BioWare comprises each the titles that he mentioned previously, with him more specifically using worked on games such as Dragon Age: Origins, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Perhaps his most famous position held in the company during his tenure was the Lead Designer on Baldur’s Gate 1 along with 2 together with Neverwinter Nights.
While it’so easy to become worried anytime a notable face departs a studio, this movement by Ohlen seems much more like it is for his private advantage. In subsequent tweets after the announcement of his departure, Ohlen said that his next project is that of a pencil and paper RPG publication called Odyssey of this Dragonlords. “I’ve ever been a D&D fanatic because I was 10 years old and I wish to be a part of it ,” Ohlen explained of this book.
