After its display at E3 2018,” Sucker Punch producer Brian Fleming shared a couple more pieces of information on Ghost of Tsushima to complement the combat and more that we watched in the game on stage.
Especially, Fleming detailed that the game will happen during the Mongol invasion of Japan at the year 1274, and that the game is going to probably be “an original story set in the world of feudal Japan. ”
The main character’s title is Jin Sakai, who is “a potent samurai warrior” which will embark upon an experience that “draws on Japanese history and the legendary traditions of samurai cinema,” together with Fleming mentioning the game’s story is going to be “a story of revenge, empowerment, and hope. ”
As far as exactly to the demo showed, Fleming said that the demonstration was supposed to give “a glimpse into the world and narrative we are producing,” and that it meant to “capture a few of the vital visions we need for the game” involving its breathtaking atmosphere of Tsushima Island and its striking katana battle.
As far as the remainder of the cast goes, Jin is going to be accompanied by another character called Masako, who is “a deadly onna-bugeisha” (a female samurai). Their companionship is drawn with their own desire to save their homeland in the Mongol invaders, though Fleming addressed that “Masako’s horrible personal history drives a wedge in her relationship with Jin. ”
Ultimately, Fleming stated that Masako’s narrative is just one of “many side characters and quests which form the fabric of Ghost of Tsushima,” and that the E3 2018 demo itself just showed “a negative experience from the game’s chief route ” that’s part of her narrative.
Besides the characters, Fleming also pointed to an interesting section of the demo through the use of crimson leaves, as noticed in the duel between Jin and Masako. Specifically, Fleming stated that “the crimson leaves are a gimmick for this particular story in Ghost of Tsushima,” and also for the game’s evolution, comparing them to “ideas swirling” which were “overpowering ” and “amazing and exciting” at the exact identical moment.
Other than their metaphorical meaning, Fleming stated that “that single red leaf Jin picks up at the beginning of the story was a touchstone for its production of the narrative,” and that the leaf represents the various thoughts and theories that the team has obtained on with what seems to be a stunning title coming to the PS4’s library.
Ghost of Tsushima is presently in development for PS4, however no launch window for the title has been confirmed just yet.
