Shenmue III Delayed to 2019 to Polish the Game to “the High Standards it Deserves “

Now publisher Deep Silver and developer Ys Net made an statement to confirm the expected 2018 release window is no more.

Deep Silver said that the game will get additional gloss to the “top standards it warrants” and a much better launch timeframe.

“Deep Silver declared that their upcoming release Shenmue III has been transferred and will now release in 2019.

The extra time will be used to enhance the grade of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and launch the product at the most effective possible interval. “

“To all our backers, we’re extremely sorry for the delay. After much conversation with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the launch will allow us to send Shenmue III at its best. We promise to utilize this opportunity to improve the caliber of all Shenmue III.

We cannot thank you enough for your enduring support. ”

This is actually the second time that the game is delayed, after the first slip announced in June 2018, almost exactly one year ago.

To be honest, the tidbit about the “best possible timeframe” for launch may also be telling. This year we’re getting Shenmue I & II out of Sega, and it might make little sense for a small developer like Ys Net to start the next chapter of the series before the younger generations have a opportunity to take a look at the two.

Incidentally, for the sake of full disclosure, the author of this guide is among the original Kickstarter backers of the game.
