Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection Review — The Ys Starter Pack

Perhaps You Have heard of Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection? Don’t beat yourself up if you haven’t. It’s the next entry in the series out of Falcom, the programmers of Ys and The Legend of Heroes. That said, you may want to stick around because it just so happens that the west has been missing out on a somewhat unique and intriguing activity series (as normal).

, the very first entry in the series published only in Japan, however there are characters that appear in both entrances.

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection given some much needed light hearted action to my gaming catalogue, which makes me more excited to share my expertise with it.

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection starts with by introducing a treasure hunter named, Ranga Valentine, as he’s taken down with a mysterious enemy and then left for dead. Luckily, the  vampire Lady Alwen du Moonbria was at the region to revive Ragna in a price Ragna is going to be Alwen. His petition is to recover Alwen’s stolen castle and magic. This doesn’t sit well with Ragna and that alters the conditions of the contract to make them both equal partners, Alwen agrees and they set off on their travel.

For those people who have played Falcom games, the cities must have some features. As you talk to NPCs their data is saved and during the narrative you’ll find out more and more about who they are and also their personalities. This system isn’t deep or critical as it is other Falcom games, however, offers a fantastic introduction to players that aren’t utilized to these systems. Additionally, there are a number of rather unique world map features that enables players to freely roam around the open globe and walk to cities and dungeons right at the start of the game, even though some areas need particular magic to acquire access to, that is sort of like entrances of The Legend of Zelda series.

Players can enter dungeons with a clear assignment to locate Alwen’s stolen magical, but that doesn’t mean they can’t locate some useful treasure at exactly the same time. The boss path that is non-end will move on for awhile and also lead the player further from their destination, but may also permit the player to discover some special treasure.

As it sounds, this isn ’ t and not one of the dungeons have gimmicks or puzzles to get passed to progress so as. I should add that I’m not trying to create the game seem simple, but it less taxing making me think that Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection would be ideal for younger gamers to experience an Ys like adventure without the heavy story and exploration based gameplay.

That said, Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection offers a huge variety of upgradable equipment by using mechanical parts. These parts may be equipped to get skills and are located within dungeons at the aforementioned branching paths. On the other hand, the attributes are easy to understand and readily obtained, which make this game all the more accessible to simple action lovers, while supplying some form of system for your vets.

The battle system in Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection is remenist into the Ys series. Players can switch between the two main characters through fights as they both provide attacks at another range. While magic based attacks are used by Alwen Ranga focuses on strikes with his Anchor Gear weapon. I felt like the combat system was smooth and responsive, I readily mowed enemies down and racked up huge combos by utilizing the switch feature between cool down sessions.

Normally in activity game, taking out monsters is the perfect way to gain degrees, however,  Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection players will have to learn a new attribute that took me a while getting used to. During while and conflict investigating dungeons, players will pick up different food items. Typically, food is attributed to health replenishment, but in Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection ingestion will not merely restore health, but may also increase the experience bar, which can be shared between both characters.

It took me a time using this attribute because Id tell me to destroy every enemy on the field and move on, but that’s simply not the case with Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection.   Although every enemy drops money, only some will produce a food thing.

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection thankfully has that much XSEED localization that lovers of the programmer have begun to love. The storyline is lighthearted and simple to follow, but provides some comical scenes between Ranga and Alwen that aren’t your heroes. This game doesn’t possess innuendos that additional Falcom games seem to have in their story, but instead boasts scenes demonstrating a growth in friendship between the two characters that is nice to follow along with. However, seeing these disagree on matters is pretty hilarious.

There are a couple of different characteristics that   Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection which players can acquire access to. This includes calculator, a memo pad, along with other items which are found in dungeons and can be equipped and exhibited on the HUD of this screen. They don’t really do anything, however some of the attachments are so random.

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection Review -- The Ys Starter Pack

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection provides some good action gameplay at a story told by a special cast of characters. The game provides bosses that are enormous and many explorable dungeons to take head on. I would mention that Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection is super easy to pick up and very hard to put down due to the accessible gameplay mechanisms and easy to follow narrative.

Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection may meet some of the hardcore Ys loving fans of Falcom, but I feel like that game will do much more for any gamer who’s intimidated by the developer’s other series and larger names. It’s’s a pity that I waited as long to get in the Zwei series, however that I’m grateful to get a opportunity to play with such a enjoyable and amusing action RPG in a time in which severe story assumptions seem to be all we get.
