The game received great reviews, because it improved over the original in lots of ways. Though the game generally plays from third-person, a first-person style has just been added to the game as part of a brand new update.
This gives the game a huge amount of replayability, as a tool like a perspective can drastically alter how any given scenario feels in-game. The choice can be toggled off and on at any moment through an in-game menu, and players can choose to use both perspectives they believe they will be the most impactful.
Considering how popular first-person horror games like Outlast II and Resident Evil VII really are, I’m not amazed that the developers added the first-person perspective to the game to appeal to a broader niche of terror game lovers. Shinsaku Ohara, Producer at Tango Gameworks, commented about adding a first-person style to The Evil Within 2:
“plenty of players enjoy playing with games from first-person, so for people who wish to see a number of this game’s scenarios through Sebastian’s eyes, it is a really neat experience. I believe researching Union in first-person makes the scale feel even bigger if you are in third-person than it does. Being able to see our environments and enemies up near allows players to get a much better look. ”
